Anime characters often undergo terrible trials. From losing loved ones or power to being abandoned or ostracized, trauma is rampant for anime characters. Some anime characters, heroes like Hyakkimaru or villains like Sasuke Uchiha, set their sights on revenge. However, others do the very opposite – ditching fighting and killing in favor of a more merciful approach.
Sometimes, anime characters go through so much that they no longer want to continue a cycle of violence or hatred. These characters take the proverbial high road and focus more on forgiving their adversaries. There are several familiar faces who chose to forgive their enemies rather than perpetuate a cycle of revenge and violence.

While Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha’s rivalry caused a lot of collateral damage and resulted in a lot of violence, the two were fated to be intertwined. Naruto was never going to give up on bringing Sasuke back to the side of good. Eventually, he can do this, but not before having another fight with his best friend.

Diamond Is Unbreakable’s Yukako Yamagishi had not only become obsessed with Koichi Hirose, but she also kidnapped him and tried to torture him into making better grades. However, Koichi was able to escape the prison she had put him in thanks to his Stand, Echoes. Still, the two were forced to fight.
Eventually, Koichi came out on top – though he had to save Yukako from certain doom in the process. Because of this act of chivalry, Yukako realized the error in her ways. The two end up dating, so at some point, Koichi forgave her rather than seeking revenge.

Gaara’s father, the former Fourth Kazekage, was the catalyst for most of the problems in Naruto: Shippūden. He imbued Gaara with a demon, which killed Gaara’s mother. He used Gaara as a human weapon. He isolated Gaara from the rest of the world, and then tried to kill Gaara when he was traumatized and acting out.
However, thanks to Naruto Uzumaki, Gaara changes his worldview and eventually becomes the next Kazekage. So, when Gaara is put face-to-face with his father as a result of the reanimation jutsu, he finally has the chance to take out his anger on his father. Instead, Gaara forgives his father and the two have a heart-to-heart.
4 Shōko Still Became Friends With Shouya In A Silent Voice
Shouya relentlessly bullied the deaf Shoko when they were children, and Shoko had to transfer schools. Shouya was made a social pariah, despite not being the only bully. However, as Shouya grows, he becomes sorry for what he did, and he learns first-hand what bullying feels like.
Years later in A Silent Voice, Shoko runs into Shouya. However, because Shoko is so gentle and kind, she forgives Shouya and allows him the opportunity to prove he has changed and to become her friend.

Thinking a goddess of battle and war would resolve anything without violence seems counterintuitive. If fans could have asked Bishamon before her arc’s resolution, she would never have admitted it could be possible. But in Noragami, she gave up on her revenge quest and stopped fighting Yato.
Bishamon realized that all the problems she had blamed on Yato for centuries were her fault, and she would be the one who had to resolve those issues. When Yato tried to do it all those years ago, it did not go over well. She forgave Yato, and now all she had to do was forgive herself.

When a squadron of Taira loyalists ran by to kill or imprison anyone who dared to speak ill of the Taira clan, the last thing anyone would do would be speaking ill of the Taira clan in the loyalists’ presence. But, that is exactly what Biwa did in Heike Monogatari, and it resulted in her father dying in her place.
Biwa was a child in a land under terrible rule, so it is hard to cast the blame on her. However, after her father’s death, she goes to the Taira, and she is adopted into their family. She even starts to care about her new family members.
